Wolves hooligans again brought violence to the city centre after losing to Birmingham City at Molineux.
Three arrests were made and a number of officers were injured during trouble after yesterday’s 3-2 defeat.
Hundreds of police flooded the city centre in an attempt to avoid a repeat of the ugly scenes following matches with West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff.
But shortly after the final whistle, officers came under fire from missiles at the coach park. Witnesses reported seeing a 50-strong group of yobs in the Great Western Street area. Officers in full riot gear closed in on the group, penning them in while other fans dispersed.
The group was then escorted towards Wolverhampton train station but there were pockets of violence around the Ring Road at Stafford Street. One man, his hand covered in blood, sat on the pavement.
At one point several police vans raced to Queen Street, where a man was pinned to the ground by officers.
l Police were pelted with bottles and bricks when trouble flared after Stoke City’s home game with Hull on Saturday. Ten arrests were made.

Typical of yobbish wolves fans.
Why do the E&S persist in calling these morons “Wolves hooligans”, they are nothing to do with Wolves, they are just young idiots creating trouble. Unprofessional journalism like this just stirs up trouble.
Pete - PLEASE don’t assume that all Wolves fans are ‘YOBS’!!
Yes Pete, all Wolves fans are hooligans…sigh…
arrest record = name and address etc. so no doubt they will be banned!
Wulfrun - Those were wolves supporters not E&S reporters trying to attack people. They are a disgrace.
Olo, you’re perfect proof that people just talk rubbish to have a dig. You can’t possibly believe what you put to be true, but you thought you say it anyway. The fact is that these are generally young men, who think they have to prove something, lead or influenced by older men who should know better. It continually amazes me how, in 2007, we still have people with tribal, neanderthal thought patterns. This is down to a shortfall in the hooligan’s mental capacity as opposed to their club. However, I do believe the influence is greater at some clubs over others and I wouldn’t say Wolves are notrious trouble makers. What is the bet that Olo is an Albion fan.
HAS ANYTHING CHANGED ,I USED TO GO INTO WOLVERHAMPTON BACK IN THE 70s AND REMEMBER TO LEAVE THE TOWN BEFORE THE GAME HAD FINISHED AS YOU NEW THERE WAS GOING TO TROUBLE,SO IS THIS NEW NEWS OR JUST THE SAME OLD RUBBISH REPEATING ITSELF ,RUDY AUSTRALIA…..
Well said Steve-O and I think your right …………. Olo is a Sandwell Town fan !!!
Obviously its not the Wolves fans its just everyone who visits (I think not) Maybe some sort of league action is requied for consistent offences as mentioned in the above article, Wolves fans need to learn to accept defeat graciously, I even witnessed trouble at masters football with Wolves fans there reputation is there for everyone to see, regardless of any article printed by E&S
Steve - O … OLO is being sarcastic. he is saying that not all Wolves fans are hooligans. Hence the word “sigh”.
I think Olo may have been trying to be sarcastic…… seems it missed the mark
i can’t understand why everyone is so quick to comment on violence, lets concentrate on worrying about the football, hooligans want to fight other hooligans, whilst thats the case they are leaving everyone else alone. over policing creates most of the problems
Yeah he was trying to be sarcastic, i think they all missed the humour element to his post.
I was at the match yesterday and walked back to my car parked near the train station and whilst i do not doubt there were Wolves ‘fans’ involved, all i saw were Blues fans goading home fans, and assaulting Police. Why were they let out at the same time and then allowed to mingle with Wolves supporters after recent history?
Well said Ballboy, Persistant offenders need to be punished, fines don’t affect the supporters so that won’t stop it. The FA either need to look at 1 point deduction or games behind closed doors, or if it carries persistantly demotion. i know this is unfair on the real football fan that goes purely for football, but the thugs won’t give in until it starts affecting their own clubs League status. And there is nothing of bias in this statement, it should be the way for all teams that are represented in the English Leagues, apparently English football is the best in the world, the supporters need to be the same
The yob culture is litrally alive and Kicking, not only before and after football matches , but in and around most town and city streets on a friday and Saturday night, Lets not kid ourselves, I have been home and away with wolves for many years, and feel the minority of them still have a point to prove, sorry to say we are still one of the most unpopular clubs around, even Norwich hate us.Like most before us , I will find something better safer and cheaper to do during match day. norfolk Wolf…
i don’t think this happened after the defeat, but in the time after kick off. We were parked in the away car park and didn’t see any trouble after the match and we are wolves fans.
Let’s wait and see the criminal justice process through its course before jumping to conclusions about hooliganism. In common law everyone is innocent until proved guilty- and I think the express and star should be very careful about subjudice, and prejudicing potential trials as they are prone to do.
Good point Clire,
However it is still hooliganism before anyone has been found guilty of it, a crime is still a crime whether or not a conviction has been made, no names have been mentioned so who do you suggest is on trial?
We (meaning Wolverhampton, not just Wolves FC) do have a problem with hooliganism. But to punish Wolves FC, who do all they can to stop problems, and the rest of us well behaved supporters, is totally wrong.
Its easy. You arrest the trouble makers and throw them in jail, oh but we can’t because the jails are full - hardly the fault of Wolves FC, is it?
And all of us who walk towards town after games will often see the younger element of our hooligans walking the other way, proving that many of them don’t even go to the games - so hardly the fault of Wolves FC, is it?
Watching the match on TV, there were Blues fans, taunting the wolves Fans.
So I am not surprised this has happened.
The wolves have alway been the same, they dont like losing!
Taunting is all part of Fooball at any game thats what fans are about, some sections (not all) take it to much to heart,
In reply to your comment The Dawg I have to agree unfortunately how can you stop these select few so called fanatics without pnishing the reason for their so call “cause”? Its not to dicipline the club as such who I am sure do all they can but the fans who cause the trouble. Same as FIFA when it comes to England internationals.
Harran
opposition fans taunting each other goes on in every ground up and down the country every week, it isn’t just a one off at local derbies.
still no excuse for hooliganism (if it’s found to be football supporters causing the trouble)
THE BLAME FOR FOOTBALL HOOLIGANISM
IN THIS COUNTRY LIES SQUARELY WITH
THE MEDIA, EXPRESS AND STAR INCLUDED.
IF YOU TREATED THESE HALF WITTED MORONS
LIKE THE SCHOOL KIDS,BECAUSE THATS EXACTLTY HOW THER’E BEHAVING,IT WOULD STOP TOMORROW.
Before commenting - why not show your colours? I am a wolves fan - I live in the North East, and recently went to the Darlington v Hartlepool game. After the match I wasnt allowed to go to where i was being picked up, instead I was directed by the police into a stand off between police and fans,,, the police then charged into the crowd with police horses,,, i saw lots of innocent people - myself included, being treated like a yob, for watching a game of football,,,,it was later reported as football violence, I saw it, it was police induced. Its not rocket science, march fans in, march them out - and hold them back in the ground - work with local transport to ensure trains etc are scheduled accordingly - its easy to resolve, but easier to make stupid comments and generalise without knowing the facts.
How come Wolves get all the blame, when i left with my 7 yr son, driving up the ring road i saw 5 Blues fans, all beating the c**p out of a young Wolves fan, he looked really bad, they even jumped on his head while he lay on the ground. the police took ages to help him. Luckily my son didnt notice until i beeped my horn and fired a few verbals at the gang and they ran off. I am a wolves fan, i just dont like it when we get all the blame…. I hope that lad was ok in the end!!!!
Wulfrun - Of course they are Wolves hooligans. You may not want the association but its a fact. They are probably very loyal to the club too, like many hooligans are, going home and away.
Why are some of you defending the hooligans, its always the same, England fans go abroad and there’s trouble. At home there’s trouble - proud to be British on St Georges Day - I think not!!
WWFC can only control what goes on in the stadium which they do very well.
There is then a small minority who cause trouble after the game.
Surely keeping the away fans in for 15mins after would solve most the problems. Let the majority of people go home and then there’s no problem.
Why on earth were Cardiff City mentioned in the article. We had nothing to do with this!
THIS IS TYPICAL WOLVES BEHAVIOR
VERY BAD LOSERS.
I AM FED UP WITH THIS BEHAVIOR EVERY HOME GAME.
These yobs bring disgrace to the club.
We should ban them.
@Ballboy - to punish clubs for violence outside the ground is grossly unfair.
The perpetrators are *not* football supporters; they wouldn’t give a toss about points deductions or matches being played behind closed doors. These hooligans are morons out for a fight and they congregate after the match around the stadium or just off the ringroad, many of them don’t even attend the match. Note that crowd trouble doesn’t actually occur inside the ground.
Three arrests is three too many, agreed. But in the grand scheme of it all, it is a comparatively low figure. Bit of a non-story really.
Why are you all bleating on about this and condeming it so much. Nothing of note happened, no one was seriously injured and none of you were directly effected by it. Its simply young (and some not so young) lads running around causing mischief. I bet your the same sort of people who get all misty eyed and nostalgic at the thought of Mods and Rockers battling on seafronts on bank holidays. There is no real difference.
Wolves hooligans always want to be top dogs so when they play any team that has a hooligan element they make sure every hooligan firm hear’s about how they turned over another top firm.As for docking points that is a stupid comment. The police love it when a top firm comes to town.Anyway up the Wolves.
Sorry but this is a Wolverhampton thing not a football related problem. I remember years ago when Cradley Speedway ruled the roost that it could be a frightening visit to Monmore due to the redneck tendencies of some of the locals. That never happened anywhere else.
The comment about WWFC only being responsible for behaviour in the ground is a good one but even then a blind eye is conviniently turned by stewards. When visiting with the Saddlers my daughter was covered with urine by morons from the upper tier. I told a steward who found it hilarious. No wonder everyone hates em.
As far as the bad loser comments…You think they would be used to it by now.
Hooligans have been with us for many years now and the problem isnt going away. So why not organise it properly, let them kick each other to bits in a field somewhere , film it and sell it to Sky and send the profits to a designated charity. Each club could have their own charity, so money for good causes, hoolies off the streets.Result !
it was a mad rampage,i got hit on the head 6 times!!!Oh my days!!!
It takes two to fight ……. shaming and blaming should be reflected on both Wolves and Birmingham City not just the losing team! All credit to the police who attempt to control violence at matches and keep it away from the true supporters who are there to watch a good game of football!
man, who cares! Great match, u can avoid the trouble no problem.
WHY DO PEOPLE GO ON ABOUT THE EXPRESS AND STAR FOR IF IT WAS NOT FOR US AT THE EXPRESS AND STAR PEOPLE WONT KNOW WHATS GOING ON IN AND A ROUND WOLVERHAMPTON I WORK FOR THE EXPRESS AND STAR PEOPLE LIKE TO READ THE BEST SELLING NEWS PAPER SO THATS WHY WE ARE TAKEN PHOTOS IT WONT BE CALLED A NEWS PAPER WOULD IT IF WE DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY TO PEOPLE THAT BY THE NEWS PAPER WESTMIDLANDS POLICE TRY TO KEEP ORDER AND STOP YOUBS BUT SOME TIMES IT GETS A BIT HARD IF THEY HAVE ALL THE POLICE AT THE FOOTBALL GROUNDS AND PEOPLE RING 999 FOR THE POLICE THEY ARE UNABLE TO GO TO THAT CALL BECOUSE OF THE FOOTBALL SO PLEASE DONT BLAME THE EXPRESS AND STAR WE ARE ONLY DOING ARE JOBS
I cant believe how blinkered some people are,, do none of you know one perosn whos been involved in football violence? im not saying you are, or your friends or family are involved, but surely you know one person who has been - ive seen England fans deported on TV, and i knew some of them from school or from local pubs in town,,, and i can say 100% they are football fanatics, they go to matches home and away and England home and away - even Englan friendlies. That is what they are, they love football and they dont need to be at a game to be involved in violence, they fight on saturday nights out, between themselves, strangers, they love a good fight. You are crazy if you think its not EVERY club, they call each other on match day, they are mates at England matches and then fight when their teams play. Surely you’ve seen the documentaries? If you dont know that, you have your eyes clsoed. Its all arranged, and the police know who they are, they video them, they arrest them…. wake up,,, every club has football hooligans,,, name me a club that doesnt, send the teams to the Express and Star - who you think havent got “a firm” and i will research it on your behalf and tell you the truth. - who are wolves fans fighting with? do you think that they just fight with the general public?? its surely opposing firms who want a fight. At the Sunderland game i met up with friends who are sunderland fans and we all drank in the same pub before the game - and after all fans walked out and mingled - no violence to be seen,,, and wolves lost,,,, so its not losing that makes violence,,, its arranged with the other firms - coz you all have them !!
Good feedback that covers a lot of areas.
As for the hooligans I do not believe the justice system allows the Police to deal with the riff-raff as they need to be dealt with.
Unfortunately if its outside the ground it should not be the responsibility of the club and action against the club and its fans would be unfair, they may not even be fans causing the trouble.
As for the comment about the stewards I think if there is cause for concern as these guys should be protecting the clubs name, if anyone has a problem the police are always there and the stewards should be spoken to by them and thats before the club deals with them.
Its just a pity that 50 out of 22,000+ cannot be dealt with.
i think is g8 news wolves aging bk on top but what is going to happen if its a wolves and albion play off final ???
Football hooligans are by their very nature sad, pathetic, and most of all, cowardly.
Why? Because the whole lot of them, they need their mates to bail them out.
If any genuinely tough fella challenged a football hoolie to a 1 vs 1, fists only, he’d run a mile.
Throwing a bottle from 40 yards, or kicking a lone bloke on the ground with five others. How brave!
Our soldiers in Iraq must be delighted they don’t have to serve alongside such cowardly vermin.
i think that all wolves fans are sore losers they moan if they loose at a match and moan when they get turned over of the pitch they always start the trouble no wonder they get a slap
