Lenny in hot water over snub

Dudley-born comic Lenny Henry has disappointed fans by leaving his home town out of his latest tour and deciding to perform in Wolverhampton instead.

The legendary funnyman says he won’t be performing in Dudley because it lacks a proper theatre.

But the town’s concert hall has already staged shows by Ken Dodd and Des O’Connor.

And today fellow Black Country funnyman Tommy Mundon said he was sure plenty of Dudley people would feel snubbed by Lenny’s decision.

“If it is good enough for Ken Dodd, it is good enough for Lenny Henry. I think he owes it to Dudley to come back and the concert hall would be ideal.”

Lenny will be instead be cracking jokes at The Grand Theatre in Wolverhampton and a host of other theatres up and down the country.

Dudley Concert Hall seats 1,008 people - just 192 less than The Grand which has just added a second date for the two-hour stand up show after the first sold out.

Lenny, aged 48, now a CBE, told the Express & Star: “It’s a theatre show and so we tend to only do theatre gigs. I’m really sad there’s no theatre in Dudley. What can we do about it?”

He claimed he had not been given the option to perform at the Dudley venue.
